Ask anyone who moved to Ontario from another part of Canada and they’ll tell you: Ontario is weird about Sundays. Banks close, malls close, and even grocery stores close. The downtown cores empty out. Traffic is light everywhere but the roads out of town.
Because of this, it can be hard to find a used car dealership on a Sunday in Mississauga. The massive district of car lots around where Dundas Street meets Erin Mills entirely shuts down. Because the big anchor lots close Sundays, the smaller ones do as well. For five blocks, the whole area is a ghost town.
So, in order to buy in Mississauga on a Sunday, you have to leave the district and go farther afield. There aren’t any specialty, classic, or antique dealerships open on Sundays, but there are some perfectly reasonable places to get a good family car.
Peel Chrysler
212 Lakeshore Rd W, Mississauga, ON L5H 1G6
Striking a balance between Ontarians’ traditional refusal to work Sundays and customers’ preference to shop on Sundays, Peel Chrysler opens for a half shift, from 11 to 4.
Peel Chrysler offers new and used vehicles, but only deals in Chrysler. Their focus on one company is actually pretty helpful—their staff know Chrysler platforms inside and out and they have a good line on replacement parts, leading to better maintenance and service.
Autotech Emporium
1684 Dundas St E, Mississauga, ON L4X 1L7
This is a well-established and well-loved used car dealer. It finds good balances between selection and service, quality and price. You might not find the fastest cars in the world here, but, like Peel Chrysler, it’s open from 11 to 4 on Sundays.
Tabangi Motors
5926 Shawson Dr, Mississauga, ON L4W 3W5
Open from 11 to 5, Tabangi Motors is a family business with roots in the area. They specialize in mid-range family vehicles, especially crossovers and SUVs, but stock cars as well.
Hertz Car Sales Toronto
5300 Dixie Rd, Mississauga, ON L4W 2A7
Just off the 401 is Hertz’s sales outlet, open on Sundays from 11 to 5.
Hertz’ business model includes rapid cycling of their fleet of rental cars, ensuring that customers always get to rent the newest models. Therefore, after two or three years as a rental, their cars end up in this used car dealership side business. It’s a good place to go to get a relatively new car for a good price, as long as you don’t mind driving a former rental.
AutoPrice Canada
1630 Matheson Blvd, Mississauga, ON L4W 1Y4
Not far from Hertz is a used car dealer showroom, open from 11 to 4. Autoprice offers a range of financing and leasing options for any credit score, but their prices are a little high, so look them up before you go.
Auto Sales Mississauga | Car Financing
3090 Mavis Rd #24, Mississauga, ON L5C 1T8
This is a smaller operation that specializes in higher-risk financing. It has some good Sunday hours though, from noon to 6.
Go After Brunch
As you can see, even the dealers that do open on Sunday don’t open their doors until at least 11:00. If you plan to go car shopping on a Sunday, wait until the late morning to get started, but don’t wait too long. The dealerships close early as well, so give yourself plenty of time to make a decision.
