Vehicle Description
History/Overview
Last year, the Nissan Frontier mid-size pickup got its first redesign in more than 15 years, an update that saw this truck upgrade from its previous compact status. The Frontier is Nissan’s only truck model after the big Titan was discontinued after 2021.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
The Frontier’s only change for 2023 is the addition of a Midnight Edition trim package.
Available Trims
Nissan offers the Frontier in S, SV, SV Convenience, SV Midnight Edition, and Pro-4X trim levels. You can also choose between King Cab extended cab and four-door Crew Cab body styles, keeping in mind that not all trims are available with both cab types. In all Frontiers, power is from a 3.8L V6, a nine-speed transmission, and standard four-wheel drive.
Standard Features
King Cab S trim comes with fog lights, auto on/off headlights, LED taillights, 16-inch steel wheels, A/C, four-speaker audio, an 8.0-inch touchscreen,
Nissan toughens up every Frontier with a front skid plate and enhances its off-road readiness with hill descent control. Also included in all trims is a suite of driver assists: forward collision mitigation, lane departure warning, blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, rear automatic braking, and automatic high beams.
King Cab SV Convenience adds front tow hooks, under-rail bed lighting with 120-volt power outlet, 17-inch alloy wheels, a trailer hitch, a sliding rear window, passive keyless entry, dual-zone A/C, a power driver’s seat, heated front seats/steering wheel, a six-speaker stereo, and a security system. Crew Cab SV models are similarly equipped but gain rear under-seat storage and rear door child locks.
SV Midnight Edition builds on the other SV grade models with LED headlights/fog lights, black wheels, and other black trim elements.
Pro-4X models gain a locking rear differential, surround-view cameras, traffic sign recognition, trim-specific wheels, off-road shocks, full underbody protection, LED headlights/fog lights, wireless phone charging, and a 9.0-inch touchscreen.
Key Options
A Pro-4X luxury package option adds a 10-speaker stereo, leather upholstery, garage door remote, an auto-dimming mirror, and upgraded door and console trim.
Fuel Economy
Nissan’s fuel consumption estimates for the Frontier are 13.5/10.4 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
With the Frontier, Nissan goes toe-to-toe with the Chevrolet Colorado, Toyota Tacoma, Ford Ranger, and Honda Ridgeline.
