The GTI started it. Volkswagen unleashed the Mk1 Golf GTI in Germany with 99 horsepower and a goal to sell 5,000 copies. Volkswagen actually sold 461,690 of those cars, and a legend was born. Volkswagen gave birth to a hot hatch craze that even now, decades later, is still personified by the Golf GTI. 




This is a 2023 Golf GTI 40th Anniversary Edition, marking four decades since Volkswagen began selling the official Rabbit GTI in Canada with a 90-horsepower fuel-injected four-cylinder. The 2023 model produces 151 more horsepower than that – a 168% increase – and runs that power through a lightning-quick 7-speed direct-shift automatic gearbox. The Vehicle Dynamics Manager and VAQ limited slip differential help to get that power to thr ground through 19-inch tires. Dynamic Chassis Control allows a high level of driver customization. 




And don't forget the original GTI purpose – this was never intended to be a pure sports car; it was always intended to be a sports car in practical everyday clothes.
